Moment of Inertia –
Full Discussion
Moment of Inertia:- Moment of inertia
plays the same role in rotational motion as played by mass in linear
translational motion. So we can say that turning or rotating effect of mass is
known as Moment of Inertia (Denoted by I).
Mathematically Moment of Inertia of a rigid body about a fixed axis of
rotation is defined as the sum of the product of the masses of all the
particles constituting the body and the square of their distances from axis of
rotation.
So Moment of Inertia depends on
(1) Mass Distribution
around the axis of rotation.
(2) Mass of the body.
(3) Distance of the
particles from axis of rotation.
